06/24/19 - On 6/22, Alice took me into Abilene and we went toured the Greyhound Hall of Fame Museum. It was very interesting. There was a rather large greyhound in the building but very friendly. I did not realize that the greyhound dog racing was still active but soon learned that it is still very active. We then walked through Abilene Old Town where there were some small log buildings. One was a church that was very interesting. They actually have a gun fight show but we did not stay that long to see the show. We drove through Brown Park just outside of Abilene. The park is the home for the Boy Scouts and Girl Scouts. There was some flood damage evident but we did see alot of the park.
6/23 - We took a trip into the town of Chapman. She showed me the middle school where she works and some of the damage that is still evident from a tornado that went through the town several years ago. There has been a lot of new building projects and the town is recovering. She took me to an area that has a lot of flooding and there was a road closed where the creek was running rapidly over the road so we had to turn around. Her daughter Elizabeth and boyfriend Chase joined us for a lasagna dinner.
Today, we went to Milford Lake that is huge. We were able to drive on top of the dam. There is alot of recreation on this lake. It has a lot of flooding and I saw pavillions under water. You could see the roof tops. It was really sad. They had moved a couple of cabins to higher ground as well. There was a large part of a parking lot that was totally flooded. We then decided to drive to a dairy farm that has a store attached that sells meats, cheeses and homemade ice cream. When we got there it was closed and we were so disappointed. We then stopped off at the David's home farm which is a crop and cattle farm. They are getting ready to harvest wheat in the next couple of days. A very interesting afternoon.
